The school community expanded in 1966 with 154 students, 10 staff and an additional three portable classrooms.

Australia introduced decimal currency and Monash High embarked on its special role to carry out demonstrations and experimental projects in collaboration with Monash University and Monash Teacher’s College.

As the new school construction became imminent so did the establishment of the first  school Advisory Council. Planning commenced immediately for the construction of playing fields at the new site. The Advisory Council  developed a plan  to finance their first project and secured assistance from the Monash University experts to prepare plans for the intended playing areas.

Construction started in October , with  builders Versteegen & sons working with innovative plans to create a state- of- the art education facility. In addition to the standard school facilities was the provision of a language laboratory, a double library, a canteen, a teaching observation room, a closed circuit tv studio, a Commonwealth Science block and a gymnasium. Further deviations from usual Public Works Department (PWD) plans were wider and higher corridors and the elegant red textured brick veneer external walls.

Student opinion was encouraged and through the  newly formed Captain’s Council which was presided over by the Head Master, resolved issues and questions such as school improvements and additions the school uniform.

Our Sports Shield was named “The Ron Clarke Shield” and donated by Mr.Mrs. W. Wilson .
