41 Great Years. |
Whilst the main wing of our new school was completed in time for the first day of school, work continued on the Domestic Science wing and gymnasium. Enrolments reached 250 and the staff had grown to twenty. The first assembly at the new school was held on February 8th with an address by the Mayor of Waverley. Soon after a general meeting of parents ( 200 attended) agreed to establish a School Co-operative Society to raise $10,000 towards the School Fields project. The playing areas were completed in November and provided with grassed areas and shade trees. By August the other three wings of the school had been completed- gymnasium, Home Economics and finally the science and humanities wing. This also meant the newly formed Chess club could have a meeting place. Cameras and control systems arrived in October in preparation for the school to be wired to close circuit television. After many setbacks the wiring was completed early in 1968. This year the Captain’s Council chose new names for the school houses. Aboriginal words were used to describe an emblem to match the house colours. Brown house became Dinjalla, the wedge- tailed eagle; White house renamed Wirra, lightning; Gold house emerged as Allinga, the sun and Green house took on the new identity of Nioka, green hills. House Championship cups and trophies soon appeared for the annual awards.
