If you have the Laurel for this year please contact the webmaster.

The school enrolment was 890 students and 60 staff. Co-ordinators were appointed for the first time. Additional senior teachers joined  the Monash High staff. The commencement of Wellington High School this year caused a reduction in the Form I intake.

What’s good about Monash High 1973?

The friendliness – between the student facility, between the staff and between teachers and students.

The encouragment of self discipline- helped students in the development of responsibility, initiative and the growth of each special, individual personality.

Full development of each individual- will prepare students to meet the challenges of living, as well as academics. This  holistic approach emphasises the importance for young people to learn, about themselves, about healthy relationships and pro-social behavior, social development, emotional development, resilience, to see beauty, have awe, experience transcendence, and appreciate some sense of "truths."

The wide choice of subjects, content and presentation.-these include Human Relations, Recreational sport, Basic communication, Consumer education, Creative dance, Weaving , Pottery, Jewellery, Home Arts, Computer mathematics, Discovery science, cassetted for English, audio visual for French and German

The Counselling, advice and support available – Assistance in solving problems whether they were educational, personal or career related came from all quarters of the staff. The development of pupils’ lives was put far ahead of any other aims.

Tolerance of change-   School policies were constantly updated. Prizes as incentives in Scholastic, Citizenship and Sport were dropped being contrary to the policy of individual development. An alternative Form 6 program was devised for commencement in 1974.

POEM

Untitled

We live

In a world

Where one does

Control oneself,

One does not

Lose dignity,

One does not

Cry,

One is not

One.

But this had to be,

Because one

Hundred, thousand needles

Pierce

The armours

That we use,

And one

Hundred thousand prisms

Let loose.
